“Home†depicts Chinatown’s daily life in multiple dimensions: love, survival, resistance, and solidarity. The representation of hanging laundry recalls the historic Yick Wo supreme court case regarding discrimination against Chinese-run laundries, present-day incidents when tenants have been fined or evicted for hanging laundry to dry outside their windows. Each window and door provides a different ‘glimpse’ of the inner life of Chinatown, a view that outsiders rarely see.
