Father Richard Purcell worked with the Papago and Pima Indian reservations in southern Arizona before moving to San Francisco in 1989 to care for his brother, Marty, who was dying of AIDS. After his brother died, Purcell started Marty’s Place, a ministry for homeless people with AIDS.
